A deflocculant used in the preparation of casting slips (0.05%) in conjunction with Sodium Silicate. Also as a source of Sodium in alkaline glazes.

Powdered soda ash is a ‘slip softener’ and produces protective colloids to deal with the anti-deflocculant effects of organic materials in the clays. These two materials work well together.
